Beto and Son, the parent company of the BetoBeto brand, has been accused of corruption after a former employee was allegedly paid millions in bribes in the past.
Beto Betacourt, which owns the Betos and Betancur brands, has denied any wrongdoing and said the allegations are a result of “a small group of individuals.”
But the accusations come just days after the company revealed that former employee, Eduardo Mariano, had been paid $13.6 million to bribe his way out of a job.
Beto also confirmed that Mariano was terminated, but the company said that “no employee or employee representative has been charged.”
The Betos said that Mariani had worked for the company for six years and earned $2.5 million.
The company has not provided a statement on the matter.
In an interview with Business Insider, Mariani told us that the bribery allegations were not true, and that he has never been paid for anything, including money from the company.
“This is a small group that have gone rogue and tried to make a political killing by getting my job,” Mariani said.
He said that he worked for Beto until December, when the company decided to hire him as an independent contractor.
“It was a really tough choice to take a job with the company,” Mariano said.
He said that the decision to hire Mariani was “pretty hard, because it’s not a company where I was comfortable working.”
But he said he had a hard time adjusting to working with Beto.
“You get used to working at a company that’s so big and you work at a very big company where you have to live like you’re in the top of the world,” he said.
Mariani said that it was a stressful experience.
“I had no control over it.
I had no idea what was going on, because the company was so small and they had such a tight control.
The day-to-day was very hard.”
He also said that a new employee told him he would be better off working for another company if he quit the company, and he accepted the offer.
Mariano left Beto after a year, but he said that his dismissal was “not an easy one.”
“I was a very, very young guy.
I was just trying to build a company, to build an identity, and they made me leave,” Mariana said.
The company said it is conducting an internal investigation into Mariani’s claims.
“Our employees have a right to have confidence in their company and our culture,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
“We take allegations of this nature extremely seriously and are taking them seriously.”
The spokesperson added that Beto, which has more than 20 million monthly active users, is committed to “taking the appropriate action to address any wrongdoing.”
